There is an article from the Washington Times’ website that was linked from Slashdot today, and if it ever comes back online I’ll have more to report.  It is believe from the article description from slashdot that the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) had suggested it be mandatory that every person who flies within the United States wear a shock bracelet.  The benefits, they describe, are two-fold.  One: you, as a threat, can be subdued remotely.  Two:  you, as a threat, can be tortured in-flight for information.

“The Washington Times is reporting that the DHS wants to replace your boarding pass with a GPS-enabled shock bracelet. Plans for the device include subduing passengers remotely as well as onboard interrogation. There’s even a promotional video.” Perhaps Paul Ruwaldt (the official named in this story) has been watching “The Coneheads” a bit too much, or not actually flying enough. Expressing interest is not quite the same as ordering mass quantities, but it’s scary enough.

This Document, I understand, is the letter that points to DHS’s interest in persuing a contract with Lamperd Less Lethal to obtain bracelets for “the temporary restraint of large numbers of individuals in open area environments by a small number of agents or Law Enforcement Officers”.

The letter is dated 2006.  I wonder at what stage this contact is at currently.

Usually, I’m bigass cynical bastard when it comes to network TV…just ask Redscape. But a review from someone whose opinion I trust, and seeing that the show has made it into season two does something to peak my interest. And ho! The show in question features one of the greatest actors of all time, Bruce “Fucking” Campbell!

The quick and dirty from IMDb: “A spy recently disavowed by the US Government uses his Special Ops training to help others in trouble.”

Okay, so the show is topped with the typical network shredded cheese. There’s some annoying characters surrounding our hero meant to develop his humanity, etc. Every ep features a short sequence or two where Michael (hero) needs to create a small spy device or something from commonly available items in the classic McGyver style. Each episode tells a self-contained story, wrapped in a larger (and more interesting) arc.

On the whole, Burn Notice is not much more than an updated Knight Rider without the sweet eightiesmobile with a thin spray of McGyver over top. The show does have a pretty great style, and the femme primero is a hawtie that Redscape might recognize as a friend of Col. Frank Slade.

Honestly, I think I’m just looking for something to watch now that BSG is on another retardedly-long break, and FX doesn’t know when the fuck they’re going to continue the second and third best network TV shows (The Shield and Rescue Me)… Sometimes the cheese starts to stink, but like I said…it’s got a cool style and is mostly fun to watch. Bruce Campbell’s great as always.

MagicJohnStone for “Burn Notice” –

Gonzo

Definitely a must-see. Any takers?

Here’s an awesome article on the few discovered glitches in Grand Theft Auto IV.  The swingset glitch looks the most fun so far.  Red, we have to try some of this stuff.  Apparently it’s better in Multiplayer anyways.

If you’ve seen the hilarious “Awesome Boobage” episode of South Park this season you may remember the very un-southpark animation featured to parody (or salute) the old Heavy Metal animated feature.  South Park Studios has created a page featuring behind the scenes cuts explaining the work that went into some of the more memorable moments.

Now if we could only get Tray and Matt to do proper commentaries on their DVD releases, I’d be quite happy.  The fact that they could only muster about 5 minutes (if that) per episode really hurts the value of those discs.  You can’t tell me that you don’t have ANY anegdotes or witticisms about these episodes for christ’s sake.  If you don’t have enough to say, then do like the Simpson’s crew and get more production people in on the recording.

From Geekologie:

“Hailing all the way from Thailand, this commercial was made for Sylvania by ad agency JEH United and has it all — a picnicking family, ghosts, a guy who may or may not be a member of the Blue Man Group, and a transvestite. Advertising people, take note: this is how you sell freakin’ products.”

This is one of the coolest f’in commercials I’ve ever seen!

More sensible link.

The update includes the much sought-after in-game XMB (so you can play custom music from your library and interact with the XMB without quiting your game) and trophy support.  Of course these features have been available on the xbox360 since launch, but it’s nice to have these options on the PS3, knowing how it adds to the palyability and entertainment of the console.
